BestInterest is a good product for a specific problem: a high-conflict co-parent who will not use a co-parenting app, and a stream of hostile texts you would rather not absorb. If you are looking at alternatives, it is usually for one of a few reasons: you do not want to read your messages inside another app, you want the record sealed in a way you can hand to an attorney, you want calling and a calendar that BestInterest already has and want to compare, or you are checking the price. Here are the four options that actually cover this ground, including BestInterest itself, ranked by who each fits.
Best for: a parent who wants the relay and the record without living in an app. The other parent texts your Amicable number from their normal phone. You get the calm version of each message, with the actual request stated in a sentence, as a text on your real phone. Threats reach you in full, at once. Every original is stored word for word with a hash that chains to the previous message; photos and voicemail are sealed the same way, and the Exhibit plan exports a PDF with an integrity certificate. Pro adds writing from the app, sending photos, quiet hours, and search.
Limits: US only, no calling or calendar, monthly message allowances (200, 300, 500, with $5 blocks of 100), and it is new. Sign-ups are not open yet. Starter $9.99, Pro $14.99, Exhibit $29.99 a month; yearly is two months free. Full comparison with BestInterest.
Best for: a parent who wants the private number and the filtering plus a calendar, expenses, a journal, an AI coach, and in-app calling with recording. Boundary Line (the number) starts on the $9.99 Connect plan; Message Shield and Tone Guardian (the filtering) start at $14.99; call recording, transcription, and voicemail are on the $29.99 Protect Plus plan. Solo Mode works in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. Rated 4.5 on the App Store and 4.4 on Google Play, with more than 66,000 hostile messages filtered by August 2026.
Limits: filtered messages are read inside the app, so delivery depends on notifications; photos are gated to paid plans; some reviewers describe the outgoing coaching as restrictive. No published message caps.
Best for: parents who are, or will be, court-ordered onto a platform, and who want a full suite: messaging with a tone checker, a shared calendar, expense tracking, a journal, and a document vault, with a long history in family court. Both parents need accounts. Lower tiers start around $9.17 a month per parent billed annually; verify current pricing at ourfamilywizard.com.
Limits: messages you receive arrive exactly as written; the ToneMeter helps the sender, not the reader. If the other parent will not sign up, it does not work.
Best for: parents who both agree to use one accountable platform and want unalterable records, calling, and payments together, at a low entry price. Essentials is $7 a month per parent, Enhanced $16, Ultimate $32, and since March 30, 2026 both parents must be on a paid plan. Its records have a recognized history in court.
Limits: both parents must pay and participate; the tone tools help the sender only; incoming messages are not filtered.

Start with the other parent. If they will use an app, OurFamilyWizard and TalkingParents give you the longest court history and the fullest feature sets. If they will not, you are choosing between BestInterest and Amicable, and the question becomes where you want to read your messages. If you want them filtered inside a fuller app with a calendar and calling, choose BestInterest. If you want the calm version and the real request as a plain text on the phone you already carry, threats untouched, and a hash-sealed record with a certificate, choose Amicable. Whatever you pick, ask your attorney what your court expects before you rely on any of these records.
Amicable. The other parent texts your Amicable number from their normal phone, and the calm version reaches you as a text on your real phone. An installable web app with notifications is available but optional. BestInterest's filtering is read inside its app.
Only BestInterest (Message Shield, Protect plan and up) and Amicable (every plan) filter incoming messages. OurFamilyWizard and TalkingParents offer tone tools that help the sender write more calmly; what you receive arrives as written.
BestInterest (Boundary Line, Connect plan and up) and Amicable (every plan) give you a private number the other parent just texts. OurFamilyWizard and TalkingParents require both parents to have accounts.
OurFamilyWizard and TalkingParents have long histories of use in family court and are sometimes ordered by courts. BestInterest and Amicable are newer relays; both keep originals and produce reports, and neither is court-ordered anywhere. Amicable makes no claim about admissibility. Ask your attorney what your jurisdiction expects.
BestInterest has a free plan without the private number or filtering; with them it is $14.99 a month. Amicable is $9.99 a month with filtering included and 200 relayed messages, $14.99 for 300 with the app compose and quiet hours, $29.99 for 500 with the exhibit export. TalkingParents starts at $7 per parent, both must pay. OurFamilyWizard's lower tiers start around $9.17 a month per parent billed annually.
